What kind of media institution might distribute your media product and why?
The media institution that could distribute my magazine is Bauer
media. Bauer media is Europe’s largest privately owned publishing group, with a
worldwide media empire having over 300 magazines in 15 countries. Bauer also
works with radio stations and have a large audience of listeners. This magazine
publishes other music magazines such as Q and Kerrang, and also brand kiss and
4music. These brands are music based like my music magazine chartz, which would
be the reason why they might distribute my media product. My target audience is
teenagers and young adults which is a very wide, this means many potential
buyers for my magazine. My magazine would advertise films, beauty products,
concert tours and new albums. I will be able to sell my magazine at the price
of £2.50 on a weekly basis which is a reasonable and affordable price. The advantage
of publishing my magazine with Bauer is that if it doesn’t top or even equal
out to the same sales as Q or Kerrang it can be easily dropped and would stop
being published as it would be lacking revenue which is was predicted and not
making profit. But the magazine can be published as a online form and promote a
subscription to my readers. If my magazine becomes popular I could possibly expand my media product to a radio station as well.
Magazines publishers like IPC media would not publish my magazine
as they focus on publishing more lifestyle and hobbies magazines. This wouldn’t
fit with my magazine chartz which is a charts music magazine.
